CORNWALL, Ontario – Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS) for Women of Cornwall, SD&G and Akwesasne along with around 15 volunteers placed some warm cozies around the trees in front of Cornwall’s City Hall.
The tree cozies are a part of the 16 day White Ribbon campaign to raise awareness on violence against women.
In addition to the tree cozies, white ribbons were hung from the branches of the trees.
“They are little messages of hope to show survivors there are people in our community who love and support them,” said Angela Vinet, Executive Director of SASS.
The White Ribbon campaign caps of on Dec. 6 at noon when there will be a vigil in front of City Hall in memory of the victims of the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre.
Ron Graham was one of the volunteers who helped SASS put up the cozies and the white ribbons.
“It is very important to end violence towards women in all communities. It s is not only a problem women face alone men need to be involved and help put an end to it. Time to speak up. SASS does great work in the community and we always support them,” he said.
