Tripartite medical deal

Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SD&G) Council members have ratified a tri-party agreement with the City of Cornwall and Dr. Julie Crevier to provide full-time medical services.

In 2020, Cornwall and Dr. Crevier agreed upon a forgivable loan of $150,000 in exchange for Dr. Crevier practising family medicine in Cornwall when her education was completed. Now, the agreement will be amended to include SD&G. The Counties will be responsible for 50 per cent of Dr. Crevier’s loan in exchange for the family medicine practice expanding to include SD&G for 50 per cent of her time. Dr. Crevier’s commitment is to practise medicine in both SD&G and Cornwall for five consecutive years.

Some members of SD&G Council had some reservations since Dr. Crevier will be working with the Centre de santé Communautaire d’Estrie, a community health care organization for 2,000 patients, whose care focuses on serving the francophone community. However, most councillors eventually agreed that Dr. Crevier could provide bilingual medical care to all residents in SD&G. As well, Dr. Crevier’s practice would look to expand services to new patients and alleviate other doctors’ wait lists, making spaces available to those residents of SD&G who are searching for a doctor.
