CORNWALL, Ontario – The morning of Wednesday, June 28 saw the celebration of the five-years of hard work and cooperation between the Cornwall & District Horticultural Society, the Federal Bridge Corporation and the City of Cornwall.

The Seaway Bridge Beautification Project saw the installation of flower boxes along the railings of the bridge and on the median between the traffic.

This year, red and white flowers will adorn the boxes to celebrate Canada 150.

“The mandate of the Cornwall Horticultural Society is to promote horticulture in our community, and while we volunteer at various venues and events in the City, I feel this project will provide the largest amount of enjoyment of anything we have done to date,” said Wendy Grant, the Past President of the Cornwall & District Horticultural Society. “Already while planting and weeding, we have received numerous heart-warming “thumbs up” and “thank you’s” from passing motorists and pedestrians. As these red-and-white, Canada-150-themed plantings grow during the summer ahead, we hope they continue to bring pleasure and instil a sense of pride in our community.”

Grant also thanked the City of Cornwall, who has helped maintain the Society’s annual Bark & Compost day fundraiser and Sociatbank for their financial support and volunteers at the event.

She also thanked Friends of the Garden members who volunteered their time every year at the event and the Federal Bridge Corporation who openly supported the idea.
