SLC Celebrates 50 years

CORNWALL, Ontario – Canada isn’t the only one celebrating a milestone birthday – St. Lawrence College has officially been shaping young minds for 50 years, and celebrated, Cornwall-style this Saturday.

The festivities took place at SLC’s Cornwall campus, but are slated to continue across the trifecta until July 15. With earlier activities taking place outdoors, SLC’s ‎Alumni & Donor Relations Officer, Kris Ward says that the rain held off just long enough.

“Mother Nature tried to affect us, but we powered through, and it’s really been an amazing day,” said Ward.

The earlier part of the day was very family-minded with inflatables, face painting, magicians, and a photo booth.

Later in the evening, the college welcomed alumni the Shark Tank to join in the libations for the celebratory Pub Night.

“There’s been a lot of memories, a lot of tears, a lot of laughter shared here and we’re excited to celebrate it,” said Ward.

For entertainment, the evening featured a full roster of SLC talent, starting with homegrown Stacy McPhail spinning some sweet tunes for the first hour. Next on the docket was Kingston grad turned recording artist, Kyle Dunn, whose song ‘We are the North’ recently went viral. Last, but not least, hailing from the mean streets of Brockville were JJ and the Pillars. The guys now reside in Toronto, and have opened for the likes of the Arkells.

“Kyle and JJ have never been to Cornwall – they’re very excited,” said Ward. “They all have connections to the college.”

Kicking off celebrations in Kingston on June 24, celebrations will wrap up at the Brockville campus on July 15.
