CORNWALL, Ontario – St. Lawrence College has received the largest donation in its history – some $2 million that will go towards bursaries and awards for students.
College officials announced Tuesday the windfall will come from The Joyce Foundation, a private, family foundation created by Canadian entrepreneur Ronald V. Joyce.
“For some students the opportunity to go to college is a challenge because of the many barriers they face. The Trustees on The Joyce Foundation Board truly believe in helping kids attain higher education because when education is more accessible, everyone benefits,” said Ron Joyce.
The award will be known as the Joyce Foundation Ed Lumley Bursary, named in honour of the former Cornwall mayor and federal cabinet minister.
Bursaries of up to $3,000 per year will be available, and may be renewed based on eligibility requirements. Bursary recipients will be required to seek a mentor with the first bursaries being awarded in September.
