Cornwall woman killed in crash near Sudbury, another arrested

WALDEN, Ontario – The Sudbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is continuing its investigation into a fatal, single motor vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 6:19 a.m. on April 17, 2018 on Highway 17, east of Regional Road 55.

The passenger of the transport truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. She has been identified as 33 year old Jennifer BASTASICH from Cornwall, Ontario.

As a result of the investigation, the driver of the transport truck, Kimberly-Ann WARDEN, also from Cornwall, Ontario, was charged with careless driving contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

Highway 17 westbound lanes, in that area, were closed for approximately 12 hours while emergency services personnel conducted their investigation and cleared the scene. 

The investigation is continuing. It has been determined that road and weather conditions were not a factor.
