CORNWALL, Ontario – A diabetes fundraiser that will combine our desire to help others with our love of beer is back for another year…or is that round?
Jeff Lalonde, is the organizer of a beer tasting event that will bring together a collection of local micro-breweries (they’re now known as craft breweries) to sample some of their wares and collect money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Crafting for a Cure raised over $10,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) last year.
The event takes place Nov. 7 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Cornwall Civic Complex.
“It’s important to us because of the awareness it will create about type 1 diabetes,” Lalonde said.
Eight Ontario craft breweries are on the playbill, as well as live local music by Mandee Woods, in addition to a live and silent auction
A special prize including a BBQ/smoker, as well as $500 worth of meat donated by Olymel can be claimed too.
Lalonde says he got the idea for a diabetes fundraiser in a quintessentially Canadian way – he was enjoying a beer while watching a hockey game.
Lalonde had just taken his first sip, when he realized he could tie in Canadians’ love of that magic elixir with a fundraiser to help young victims of diabetes.
Tickets are available at Scotiabank on Brookdale, and only 350 are available.
Prizes are already being secured for the evening, including autographed NHL jerseys and other sports memorabilia.
A shuttle service is being organized and participants are being encouraged to drink responsibly.
