The Canadian Food Inspection Agency urges consumers to dispose of sll recalled products.

OTTAWA, Ontario – Loblaw Companies Ltd. has issued a recall on PC Organics Brand baby food due to potentially harmful bacteria that could form in the food.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says the baby food brand may permit the growth of Clostridium Botulinum, which could pose health risks to consumers. A manufacturing error caused an excess of water in the product, which under some conditions could support the growth of the bacteria. Consumers are urged not to consume any of the recalled products.

Prompted by a customer complaint, the recall, announced on Feb. 3, is now being expanded. The recalled products were still on shelves across Canada up until Feb. 8.

The CFIA warns that food contaminated with the bacteria may not look or smell spoiled but can still lead to sickness. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, blurred or double vision, dry mouth, respiratory failure and paralysis. In severe cases, illness may lead to death.

The CFIA recommends that consumers check their homes for recalled products, advising them to dispose of the products or return them to the store where they were purchased.
