CORNWALL, Ontario – It’s not your average garage sale, according to organizers.

The seventh annual Royal LePage Performance Realty – National Garage Sale for Shelter in support of Maison Baldwin House takes place on Saturday, May 9.

The event will also feature a silent auction and BBQ.

“Expect to find plenty of nice things, not junk,” said co-organizer Linda Giroux-Daigle, Royal Lepage sales representative.

The Cornwall real estate agency is still accepting donations for both the sale and auction. A pick-up route will be operating on Saturday, May 2 between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In 2014, nearly 1,000 community members helped the local business raise over $4,500, which included matched funds from Scotiabank.

The event will go on rain or shine since Royal Lepage is located in a strip mall beside two vacant spaces.

Joanne Lecompte, Royal Lepage branch administrator, said the women’s shelter heavily relies on the support of local fundraisers to help offset annual operational costs.

Maison Baldwin House helps women dealing with domestic violence or in need of housing. It has 10 beds and the typical length of stay is six weeks. The non-profit also has a 24-hour crisis line to further assist women and their children in the transition from violent and abusive circumstances to a safe and secure environment.

Royal Lepage agents, brokers, managers and administrative staff are more than glad to volunteer for such a worthy cause. And Scotiabank Cornwall will match up to $2,000 again.

The silent auction will feature Upper Canada Playhouse tickets, multiple restaurant vouchers, an Akwesasne Mohawk Casino package, and more.

The National Garage Sale for Shelter takes place at the Royal Lepage office, located at 722 Pitt Street #111.
