CORNWALL, Ontario – The Cornwall & Area Chamber of Commerce is warning residents to be on the lookout for an e-mail scam disguised as a Canada Post message creeping up in inboxes.
The fraudulent e-mail reads:
Dear customer. A delivery attempt was made on (a date). Delivery failed because nobody was present at the receiver’s address. Re-delivery can be arranged by visiting our nearest office and presenting a printed copy of the shipping invoice.
It then shows a web page to visit where you can access the so-called printed invoice and tracking number.
Don’t click on it.
Lezlie Strasser, executive manager of the Cornwall Chamber, said this e-mail is not from Canada Post and should immediately be deleted.
Strasser added: “Canada Post advises that whenever it makes a delivery attempt and the recipient is not there, it leaves a delivery notice card at the door or in the mailbox that directs the recipient to a designated post office. It does not contact the recipient by e-mail.”
