CORNWALL, Ontario – Results of a post-mortem could be released as soon as today concerning a body that was pulled from the Cornwall Canal Saturday morning.
Cornwall police Const. Dan Cloutier could not comment when asked if foul play is suspected in the individual’s demise. He added next of kin are being notified at this time.
A body was pulled from the canal Saturday morning after a man walking a dog made the grisly discovery after 7 a.m.
It’s was second time within a matter of days police had been forced to recover the remains of an individual. Last week a body was also found near the St. Lawrence River at the bottom end of Avonmore Road near County Road 2.
Saturday the soccer fields in the city’s west end were the scene of tragedy. Yellow police tape lined the area and several Cornwall Fire Service trucks were at the scene – one of which was towing an inflatable rescue boat.
It is unclear where the body was found in the canal, be it in the middle of the water or along the shore.
