CORNWALL, Ontario – Speedsters, drunk drivers, B&Es, and a family dispute that turned into a stabbing kept SD&G OPP busy during the Easter weekend.
Three people were suspected of driving under the influence, two related to alcohol and another on drugs, police say.
On Friday, April 3, at 3:41 p.m., Vivian Ste-Croix, 59, of Barachois, Que., was stopped on Highway 401 in South Glengarry. She was charged with driving a motor vehicle while ability impaired by alcohol and driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood.
On April 4, at 3:53 p.m., Cyril Simmonds, 64, of Pickering, Ont. was stopped on Highway 401 in South Glengarry. He was charged with driving a motor vehicle while ability impaired by alcohol and driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood.
On April 5, at 12:55 p.m., SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on County Road 15 in South Stormont. Robert Cyr, 41, of Ottawa, Ont., was arrested and is charged with take motor vehicle without owner’s consent and driving a motor vehicle while ability impaired by a drug.
Fleeing the scene
A 23-year-old Cornwall man is accused of evading a RIDE check on County Road 2 in South Glengarry on April 3.
Officers intercepted 23-year-old Reid Lepine’s vehicle a short distance away and allegedly found marijuana in it.
He was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on May 13.
Ride check leads to arrest
A man and woman from Moncton, N.B., were allegedly caught with marijuana, psilocybin, and methamphetamine pills during a RIDE check at an off-ramp of Highway 401 in South Glengarry on April 6.
They were charged with controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (two counts) and possession of a controlled substance. The pair are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on July 8.
Family dispute turns ugly in North Stormont
On Eater Sunday, an altercation between a 21-year-old South Stormont man and another male resulted in the victim being assaulted with a knife, causing minor injuries.
A quantity of marijuana was also seized from the accused and further information revealed he was in contravention of conditions imposed from a previous incident.
The man has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of a controlled substance – under 30 grams, and fail to comply with probation order (four counts). His name was not revealed to protect the victim’s identity.

In all stops, the vehicle was impounded and the driver’s permit seized for seven days.

– April 3 (7:34 p.m.): vehicle stopped on Highway 401, South Glengarry, speeding 162km/h (100km/h zone). Male driver (43) from North York, Ont. Additional charges of rriving while uinder suspension, fail to give identification and fail to notify change of address also issued.
– April 4 (9:58 a.m.): vehicle stopped on Highway 401, South Glengarry, speeding 170km/h (100km/h zone). Male driver (51) from Toronto, Ont.
– April 4 (8:08 p.m.): vehicle stopped on Highway 401, South Glengarry, speeding 154km/h (100km/h zone). Male driver (33) from Seattle, Wash.
– April 5 (11:11 p.m.): vehicle stopped on Highway 401, South Dundas, speeding 157km/h (100km/h zone). Male driver (19) from Toronto, Ont.
– April 5 (6:28 p.m.): vehicle stopped on Highway 401, South Glengarry, speeding 168km/h (100km/h zone). Female driver (28) from Pennsylvania, USA.
– April 5 (8:05 p.m.): vehicle stopped on Highway 401, South Glengarry, speeding 154km/h (100km/h zone). Male driver (29) from Markham, Ont.
– April 6 (7:34 a.m.): vehicle stopped on Highway 401, South Dundas, speeding 152km/h (100km/h zone). Female driver (41) from Whitby, Ont.
Break & Enters
Between March 30 and April 3, a recreational residence (cottage) located on Church Street in South Glengarry was robbed of a stereo receiver, laptop computer, camera, and a television.
On April 5, between 4:45 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., a residence on Algonquin Avenue in South Stormont was robbed of a music sound system, digital passport hard drive, laptop computer, and a television.
