Cabbie shown knife instead of fare, police say

CORNWALL, Ont. – A 39-year-old Cornwall man got a free ride – to jail, not home – after allegedly attempting to rob a taxi driver at knifepoint.

Cornwall Community Police Service say the cabbie picked up a fare on Thursday (May 12).

Once they arrived at the destination, police allege the man demanded money while brandishing a knife.

Police were contacted and located the man a short distance away.

“He did not get any money,” said CCPS Const. Daniel Cloutier. “The cab driver was able to distance himself from the would-be robber.”

Alain Boudrias was arrested and charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carry concealed weapon, and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace.

He was held held for a bail hearing.

Arrested for suspected drunk driving

A 25-year-old Cornwall woman was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and over 80 on Thursday. Police allege Natalie Rothwell was driving a vehicle under the inlfluence of alcohol near Pitt and Second streets. She was released to appear in court on May 24.
