City cops bust Long Sault man with $11K in fentanyl

CORNWALL, Ontario – The second fentanyl bust in the Cornwall area over the last few days led to the arrest of a 43-year-old Long Sault man.

Early this morning members of the Cornwall Street Crime Unit and Ontario Provincial Drug Enforcement Team arrested Frederico Belmonte during a traffic stop on Highway 401 near the Church Street overpass.

Police allege he was in possession of $11,137.50 worth of fentanyl, in various strengths.

Belmonte was charged with possession of fentanyl and possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking.

He was tranported to Cornwall police HQ and held for a bail hearing.

A man and a woman were both taken into custody from a Walton Street residence Monday by the Cornwall Street Crime Unit for similiar charges.
