CORNWALL – Detectives are continuing to sort out what happened to a man found with serious injuries in an apartment building in the city’s east-end Sunday.

Sgt. Dave MacLean told Seaway News police and paramedics arrived at the two-storey building on the corner of Alice and Walton streets at about noon.

“We received a report of a man with serious injuries, who was ultimately transported to the hospital,” said MacLean. “It’s not necessarily a criminal act that has taken place.”

The Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) are trying to figure how the man sustained the injuries.

“No one is in custody and there is no risk to the public,” said MacLean.

Police did not say if the wounds the man suffered were self-inflicted or caused by another individual. No information was provided on the type of weapon used in the incident.

MacLean said the man is a Cornwall resident in his 20s. He added “it’s not believed” that the man is a resident of the apartment building where the incident took place.

Two police cruisers were at the scene at 5 p.m.

More to come.
