CORNWALL, Ontario – A crime notorious in the rap world – the gold chain snatch-and-grab – landed a 27-year-old Cornwall man in handcuffs.

‘Straight Outta Cornwall’

City cops say the accused forcibly removed the jewelry from another man on Oct. 14. During an investigation a warrant was issued for the man’s arrest. Shaine Robertson turned himself in at police headquarters on Wednesday, Dec. 17. He was held for a bail hearing.

‘Welfare fraud’

A 36-year-old Cornwall woman who accepted Ontario Works payments she wasn’t entitled to was arrested on the strength of a warrant. Police say the accused submitted forged child care earning exemption forms to the OW Office between May 4, 2011 and July 31, 2012. Nancy Chevrette turned herself in at police headquarters on Wednesday, Dec. 17. She was released with a promise to appear in court on Jan. 27, 2015.

‘He fought the law, and guess who won.’

A 30-year-old Cornwall man picked the wrong fight on Wednesday, Dec. 17. When police attended an Alice Street residence to assist the Children’s Aid Society with an altercation, the accused allegedly clenched his fist at one of the workers and threatened to burn her car. Then the verbal assault escalated into a physical attack towards law enforcement when the man spat at police, according to their report. He was charged with threats, assault, and assault police, and held for a bail hearing.

‘Knuckle sandwich’

A 32-year-old Cornwall man learned the hard way that violence isn’t the answer. Police say the accused punched a 46-year-old man on the side of the head during an argument on Dec. 8. Robert Hart turned himself in at police headquarters on Wednesday, Dec. 17. He was charged with assault. The man was released with a promise to appear in court on Jan. 22, 2015.
