CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall City Council passed a by-law on Monday, Jan. 22 to enter into a partnership with Greyhound Canada Transportation ULC.
The partnership is a one-year trial to bring an inter-city bus service to Cornwall.
The Greyhound bus will travel between Cornwall and the City of Ottawa on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays starting on Jan. 28.
Riders will be picked up and dropped off at the Cornwall Transit bus stops on the corner of Pitt St. and Tollgate. Drop off time will be 12:20 p.m. and pick-up will be at 1 p.m.
Councillor Elaine MacDonald lauded the move as a beginning of a restoration of inter-city transportation services.
“This is the beginning I hope, of a reversal of a loss of service we’ve seen,” she said.
MacDonald explained how several years ago Greyhound moved their stop location for the region outside of Cornwall to the MacEwen’s on Hwy. 138.
She also pointed out the advantage that the stop being in the city as it can be reached via Cornwall Transit services.
The new arrangement will not disrupt current Cornwall Transit services and Greyhound will pay for the use of the stop at a rate of $1 for the year.
