Cornwall firefighters rescue boy from 40-foot tree

CORNWALL, Ontario – An adventurous eight-year-old boy is safe at home after climbing to the top of a tall tree on Wednesday afternoon.

The youngster climbed so high that he became stranded among the branches for 20 minutes, near a residential subdivision on Marguerite D’Youville Sreet.

“When I saw him in the tree my heart pretty well stopped,” said the boy’s mom, Kayla-Marie Levere.

Four firefighters and two vehicles responded to the call at about 4 p.m.

“Through use of the aerial ladder, the boy was successfully rescued,” said Fire Chief Pierre Voisine.

Levere thanks the Cornwall Fire Services Department and Cornwall Community Police Service for their assistance.

“My son is safe, because of them. I am forever grateful,” she said. “Connor also says, thank you very much. He was pretty scared. Fortunately, the police officer was there speaking with him while they were getting the ladder ready.”
