Cornwall references made during Gosling’s appearance on SNL

CORNWALL, Ontario – There were a couple of references to Cornwall made on arguably the most popular Saturday night TV show of all time, thanks to the Seaway City’s most famous export.

Ryan Gosling hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend, and there were a few occasions when the hunky actor and the supporting cast at the show brought up the eastern Ontario heritage of the star of films like The Notebook and The Big Short.

Things started off quickly for Gosling on Saturday night’s performance, where he had to be reminded of hailing from Cornwall, Ontario during the show’s opening monologue while attempting to fake a New York City heritage.

“Canada? Where would I get this accent?” Gosling said in response to a question from Cecily Strong.

“I looked it up and you’re definitely from Cornwall, Ont.,” continued Strong.

“Not everyone’s a big fan of immigrants right now,” replied Gosling, referencing the ongoing Syrian refugee crisis.

Strong didn’t miss a beat and added: “Now I’m looking at Google images of you and I’ve stopped listening.”

There was also sketch during the show that was featured Gosling returning to Cornwall to be interviewed by a GQ writer, but is instead accosted by a former bully, who forces him to sing and dance.
