CORNWALL, Ontario – A city woman accused earlier this year of leaving her husky type dog in deplorable conditions pleaded guilty on July 22 to three charges of animal cruelty.
On March 11, an Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) inspector visited Brenda Stang at her residence concerning a complaint of a sick dog.
“The dog smelled strongly of urine and feces, was in very poor body condition, as well as having difficulty breathing and appearing disoriented,” said an OSPCA media statement.
The canine was surrendered to the OSPCA and then taken to a veterinarian clinic. After an examination, it was revealed that the pooch was extremely emaciated, had very painful extremities, poor blood pressure and many other symptoms.
“It appeared the dog had been neglected for a long period of time and should have received veterinary care to address its symptoms,” said the report.
Due to the condition it was found in, the dog was euthanized.
Stang was sentenced to a lifetime prohibition from owning, caring for, or living with any animals.
In addition, the woman was placed on two years probation, during which time OSPCA inspectors can visit her property to ensure compliance.
She was also ordered to surrender her cat and dog to the OSPCA.
Her charges include: permitting an animal to be in distress, failing to provide adequate and appropriate veterinary medical attention, and failing to provide care necessary for an animal’s general welfare.
