CORNWALL, Ontario – A young Our Lady of Good Counsel student Ella Ha, 12, is doing her best to make the lives of her fellow kids at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) a little bit better.

She is doing this by selling Christmas cards and donating the proceeds to CHEO.

Ella started her charity work four years ago, at the age of 9.

“I felt bad for the kids in CHEO,” said Ella. “I haven’t experienced CHEO, but it must stink being sick.”

Ella sells her cards at the local chiropractor’s office, after mass at church and at school.

The money goes to fund therapeutic animals at CHEO and other types of treatment.

In her first year, Ella sold 290 cards, last year that number rose to 700 and she is hoping for even more this year.

The cards take quite a bit of work to to prepare every year. This year, Ella spent four to six weeks getting her cards ready for sale, this included composing a little poem on the front of one of the designs.

Ella has been recognized for her hard work with a CogecoTV Community Achievement Award that was presented to her this past Spring, and with a Purple Cape from CHEO.
