CORNWALL, Ontario – The students of St. Matthew’s Catholic Secondary School senior hospitality class were dishing up something delicious on Thursday, May 10.

The kids were holding their third culinary fundraiser in support of the school’s hospitality program.

The students had created sweet and savory treats that they were selling for donations from cut outs of food trucks in their class room during lunch.

All the money raised went back into the hospitality program to help buy more groceries to keep the program going.

The St. Matthew’s hospitality class gives students both a high school credit and a college credit thanks to a partnership with St. Lawrence College, providing a bridge for students interested in becoming cooks. Hospitality teacher Kelly McDermid said that the students would be going to St. Lawrence College in Kingston next week to see their culinary program.

“For us, it helps transition them into the workplace,” said McDermid. “It eases anxiety and gives them real world experience.”

The students created treats like homemade donuts and ice cream and served them up to guests which included representatives of the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO).
