CORNWALL, Ontario – Eric Duncan has grown rather fond of the mayor’s chair at North Dundas’s council chambers.
Duncan, 26, officially launched his campaign for another term as the township’s mayor on Wednesday.
“I am really proud of what we’ve been able to do in North Dundas these past four years.” said Duncan. “I feel we have really modernized ourselves as a municipality by coming up with new ways of doing things. And we have become known as a municipality that is really forward thinking and innovative. I hope to have the opportunity to keep that energy going for another term.”
The Winchester resident became the warden of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SDG) in December 2013. The youngest in its 162-year history.
At 19, he was elected as a North Dundas city councillor. In 2010, Duncan became one of the youngest mayor’s in Canada’s history.
“When it comes to my age, I try not to think about it too much because I ask others not to. This helps to get things done at the council table,” he said. “I do hope to serve as an example to young people that you can work hard and make goals and get things done.”
Duncan’s campaign focuses on a four-point plan: increased transparency through full, detailed public disclosure of council expenses and revamping property tax bills to improve understanding of where municipal revenues go locally.

And Chesterville-area resident businesswoman Theresa Bergeron has officially thrown her hat in the ring for township councillor.
The deadline for nominations for the 2014 election is Friday, September 12 and election day is Monday, October 27.
