INGLESIDE, Ontario – A magnitude 2.8 earthquake shook the region on Wednesday night, July 14 just after 7:30 p.m.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) the earthquake was 5.5km deep underground with an epicenter in the St. Lawrence River just south of Croil Island on the New York State side of the river.
The USGS estimates that the quake was lightly felt throughout the surrounding area from Cornwall in the furthest east to Cardinal feeling it the furthest west.
According to the USGS Impact Survey, there was likely no damage as a result of the quake.
