CORNWALL, Ontario – A former Cornwall resident has been killed after the dump truck he was driving in the Toronto area rolled over and caught fire.

OPP confirmed the driver was D-Jay Allen Bartlett, who attended St. Joseph’s Secondary School in Cornwall in the early 2000s.

Bartlett was making his home in Oshawa, Ont.

The dump truck he was driving crashed and flipped on its side, the Toronto star reported Tuesday.

It had been pulling a trailer loaded with gravel westbound on Highway 401 approaching Liberty Street at around 10:30 a.m. when the driver lost control and hit the concrete centre barrier, the newspaper said.

The driver was ejected from the truck’s cab. He was fatally injured and pronounced dead on the scene.

The cause of the crash is not yet known.
