CORNWALL, Ontario – The former president of the Cornwall Minor Hockey Association has been charged by city police with a trio of fraud-related offences.
Police allege a man, between November 2011, and May of this year filed unauthorized expenses and used a Cornwall Minor Hockey Association (CMHA) credit card for numerous purchases and cash advances that were deemed to be for personal use.
Following a five-month investigation by the fraud unit of the Cornwall police criminal investigation division, Brian Caskenette, age 57, of Cornwall has been arrested on charges of fraud over $5,000, theft by conversion and breach of trust.
On Tuesday police attended his residence, executed a warrant and took him into custody.
Caskenette was charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on Dec. 11.
None of the allegations against him have been proven in court.
Pat McLeod, president of the Cornwall Minor Hockey Association, had little to say on the subject.
“I’m not going to comment right now because this is before the courts,” he said. “Our focus is just to ensure the kids have a great and fun year.”
McLeod referred further comments to Blair Fitzpatrick, the trustee appointed by the CMHA’s governing body, the Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association.
Fitzpatrick appointed McLeod to his job back in May.
The Cornwall Community Police Service is asking the public to contact D/Cst Scott Virtue at 933-5000, extension 2782, if they have any additional information in relation to this crime.
Police did not specify how much money is involved in the alleged offences.
