CORNWALL, Ontario – Environment Canada is saying the Cornwall area could get covered in freezing rain starting Sunday.

The agency issued a special weather statement Saturday night, and suggested warnings are possible as the forecast becomes more concrete, as freezing rain is quite possible across the Cornwall area.

Things are forecast to start late Sunday afternoon and continuing on and off Sunday night into Monday morning.

Untreated roads and surfaces may become icy. Motorists should be prepared to adjust travel plans accordingly.

The threat of freezing rain is expected to end later Monday morning as temperatures rise above the zero degree mark.

Environment Canada is closely monitoring this situation. Freezing rain warnings may be issued if required as the event draws closer.
