CORNWALL, Ontario – Environment Canada has upgraded its special weather statement to a warning about impending freezing rain Tuesday.

Freezing rain is expected or occurring in our region.

An area of precipitation over Northern New York State will arrive in the Kingston to Cornwall regions as freezing rain later this morning.

Latest indications suggest freezing rain may last up to four hours before either turning over to patchy light rain or drizzle this afternoon.

Motorists should prepare for poor winter driving conditions. Untreated surfaces may quickly become icy and slippery. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces. Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required.
