CORNWALL, Ontario – Open Hands is hosting their ninth annual Charity Golf Tournament and million-dollar hole-in-one contest at the Cornwall Golf & Country Club this Monday.

Organizers say there’s still time for companies and individuals to register for the charity event.

“The main goal is to have the most fun with a golf tournament, but all the profits we receive will be funneled into achieving the goals of our individuals,” said Andrew Kennedy, program manager at Open Hands, a division of Ottawa-Carleton Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OCAPDD).

Kennedy credited his colleague Mathew Ladouceur, Open Hands program manager, for breathing new life into the tournament after it was nearly cancelled for a year to reinvent itself.

Members of the Cornwall Colts and Char-Lan Rebels will play golf side-by-side, and volunteer on the sidelines with Open Hands clients. Cornwall Mayor Leslie O’Shaughnessy and city officials also have a team signed-up.

In addition to the million-dollar hole-in-one contest and sponsorship prizes to be won throughout the 18-hole game, the tournament boasts a 50-foot putt for $10,000. In total, there are over $3.5 million in potential prizes to be won.

A silent auction with signed sports memorabilia will be held throughout the event.

This year’s entry fee is $125 per golfer, which includes golfing, a beer, BBQ and a delicious prime rib meal.
