Impaired driver starts Halloween on the hot seat

CORNWALL, Ontario – A North Stormont woman escaped unscathed from her vehicle after it burst into flames on Highway 138, but quickly came under fire for drinking and driving.

SD&G OPP investigated a vehicle fire in South Stormont at around 12:35 a.m. on October 31.

According to their investigation report, the woman pulled over to the roadside for safety and the township’s fire department put out the blaze.

But, upon further inspection, police said that the adult female driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Keirstin Saucier-Sanborn, 22, faces charges of driving a motor vehicle while ability impaired, driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in her blood, and fail to comply with conditions of an undertaking (three counts).

She was held in custody pending an appearance (bail) at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on the day of her arrest.
