CORNWALL, Ontario – A city councillor is suggesting specific information has been leaked to municipal staffers from a closed budget session weeks ago.
Coun. Andre Rivette cryptically suggested he has felt the cold shoulder of some staffers, presumably those who would be caught up in plans councillors are discussing that would see people paid off and buildings sold.
“I’ve got a problem when there’s a secretary down there that won’t even look at you…and she knows about it,” said Rivette. “The information in closed council affects the people in this room. They’re not to talk about it.”
Rivette’s comments raised some eyebrows around the council table at a budget meeting Friday morning.
“That’s a pretty serious thing. I don’t know what evidence he has, but it’s a pretty serious allegation,” said Coun. Claude McIntosh.
A controversial city budget meeting a few weeks ago drew criticism from some councillors, who felt much of the session could have been done publicly.
Councillors also suggested there were too many city managers in on the discussion.
More to come.
