CORNWALL, Ontario – A teenage girl who led an Ottawa prostitution ring was handed more than six years behind bars by a judge who hails from Cornwall.
Justice Diane Lahaie sentenced the girl Tuesday morning after she was found guilty in January of numerous charges, including procurement for the purpose of prostitution, human trafficking, making child pornography, sexual assault, child luring, uttering threats, and unlawful confinement.
Lahaie was a lawyer for years in Cornwall before being called to the bench.
Lahaie’s sentence caught the attention of national media. The teen girl, who was younger than 18 at the time of the offences, has been sentenced as an adult.
She was accused of orchestrating a prostitution ring in which she lured teen girls into engaging in sex acts with older men.
She will get credit for 878 days that she has already spent in custody, CTV Ottawa reported.
