CORNWALL, Ontario – Correspondence obtained by Seaway News suggests nine candidates for city council have been endorsed by the local labour board.

The controversial endorsements include Bob Kilger, Alyssa Blais, Bernadette Clement, Carilyne Hebert, Syd Gardiner, Elaine MacDonald, Heather Megill, Andre Rivette and Guy St-Jean.

The Cornwall and District Labour Council sent questionnaires to declared municipal candidates concerning issues related to the campaign – but some have complained they never received the documentation after filing their paperwork.

Louise Lanctot, political action chair with the labour council, told Seaway News questions were circulated and answers were disseminated in advance of the Sept. 12 deadline for candidates to file their nomination papers so that there would be enough time to formulate opinions on who to endorse.

There have been complaints from other jurisdictions about candidates who missed out, as well.

“It was a problem all across the province,” Lanctot said in a previous interview.

The Cornwall and District Labour Council is part of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC).

The labour council is urging union members in Cornwall to consider its list of endorsements when voting this year.
