LATOUR SPEAKS: Denies being unco-operative with investigation

CORNWALL, Ontario – A financial adviser at the heart of police charges and an investigation by a national governing body spoke publicly Tuesday for the first time, denying allegations he has been unco-operative with the process.

Gilles Latour contacted Seaway News Tuesday to provide comments concerning accusations levelled by the Mutual Fund Dealers Association, an agency that issued a press release last week accusing the former head of Team Cornwall of receiving nearly $652,000 from so-called “vulnerable” clients and not paying the money back.

“These allegations all relate to same issues that I have been dealing with for several months now and there is nothing new,” he said. “I continue to work towards resolving this matter and ultimately, clearing my name.”

The MDFA said Latour has specifically thwarted attempts to continue with its investigation by not attending a meeting and the like.

“Commencing Aug. 22, 2014, (Latour) failed or refused to provide documents and information, and attend an interview, as requested by MFDA staff during the course of an investigation into his conduct,” reads a statement from that agency.

Latour was having none of it Tuesday.

“I have been very co-operative and respective to the process, with that said, it is frustrating that I have yet to have an opportunity to fully present my information in a fair and objective manner,” he said.

Latour will attend a hearing by teleconference in February to face the MFDA allegations concerning $652,000 he is alleged to have accepted or solicited from the clients.

The MFDA alleged Latour has not repaid the money.

None of the allegations have been proven and are separate from criminal proceedings he is facing, which have likewise not been proven.

“I hope that people will wait until they have all of the facts before they make a final judgement,” he said.
