CORNWALL, Ontario – The Cornwall branch of The Salvation Army (TSA) has launched its Christmas Kettle Campaign for 2017.

This year’s fundraising effort  runs from Nov.  20 until Dec. 23.

The Christmas Kettle Campaign is the organization’s only fundraiser of the year. Money raised through kettle donations remains directly in the Cornwall. More than 82 cents from every dollar is used right here in the community.

TSA needs a minimum of 50 more volunteers to be “Bell Ringers”. Organizations, groups, friends and families are all welcome to volunteer. Hours earned through volunteering with TSA can be used toward high school community service hours. There are 8 Kettle locations: WalMart, Food Basics West and East, Baxtrom’s – Your Independant Grocer, Farm Boy, Freshco and No Frills

Donations can also be made at the TSA Thrift Store on 401 Fourth St. West as well as at their main office at 500 York Street.  Donations can also be made by phone: 613-932-7515 ext. 4.

Julie Leroux is the Thrift Store Manager as well as [Acting] Community Liason Director and as such is Coordinating the Kettle Campaign and  the Santa Shuffle.

The Santa Shuffle is a 5km run or 1 km “Elf walk” that takes place on Dec. 2. Sign up at Santashuffle.ca/Cornwall

Some services provided by TSA include: food bank, back to school program, school lunch programs, Emergency Disaster Services (EDS), winter warmth project, as well as practical family assistance including, clothing, furnishings and emotional support  and life skills counselling programs.

New programs coming in 2018 include: an Anger Management Program, known as Red Cap, GriefShare, a grief recovery support group where people can find help and healing for the hurt of losing a loved one and the Play Café,  a fun environment for parents to come with their preschool toddlers ages 2 to 5

TSA’s goal for the 2017 Kettle Campaign is  $115,000. Last year they reached their goal of $100,000.

TSA has been in Cornwall since 1888.

TSA Cornwall has partnered with the Christmas Children’s Fund for the annual distribution of Christmas Hampers which takes place at the Armouries on Fourth St East.  Registration for these hampers takes place at TSA 500 York Street on Monday to Wednesday Nov, 27, 28 and 29.

Distribution of the Christmas goodies will be on  Wednesday, Dec. 20.
