CORNWALL, Ontario – After this weekend’s storm some feared there wouldn’t be a tobogganing party however it may have just been what was needed to kickstart the event.
This year, Paul St-Onge of Mocktails teamed up with the Gentle Giants Stable and the Optimist’s club to host their second annual New Year toboggan party at Lamoureux Park.
“We realized that the park needed some life and that it had little use during the winter, so we created a toboggan hill,” said St-Onge.
Last year the event was to be the start of the Canada 150th and had well over 3500 people show up including the mayor.
The event was scheduled for Jan. 1, of 2018 but due to the frigid cold had been forced to reschedule two weeks later.
“We are still doing the tobogganing, the pastries and hot chocolate and free horse drawn sleigh rides sponsored by Canada 150th,” said St-Onge.
On top of all that the washrooms were able to be heated and open for use making the event accessible to all.
Mocktails helped keep the party goers warm by providing a variety of beverages and warm treats like beaver tails and hot chocolate. The Optimist Club brought a dozen toboggans for everyone to share and the city of Cornwall helped to clear the paths and parking lots.
