CORNWALL, Ontario – Over 100 students embraced the crisp, Fall weather on Tuesday, Oct. 16 during the Region Four Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) elementary student soccer tournament.

Coach and organizer Andrew Gilmour said that the annual tournament is the largest of its kind for elementary students in the area. This year, schools from Cornwall, Williamstown Public School and TSI Snaihne School participated at the Kinsmen Minor Soccer Field on Second St.

Ian McConnell, teacher and coach at Viscount Alexander Public School, explained that 10 teams played four round robin games to determine the order of divisions and games.

Gilmour explained that although the weather was chilly, organizers were happy that there was no rain. Gilmour said that the tournament builds comradery amongst students from opposing schools.

“You see them often getting along off the field, getting lunch together. They are just very competitive when they are on the field,” he said.

The 2018 Upper Canada Cup Intermediate Soccer Championships were hosted by the UCDSB in Perth, ON on the same day. Perth District Collegiate Institute was victorious, achieving the cup this year.
