Advanced voter turnout higher than past two elections

CORNWALL, Ontario – Voter turnout in Cornwall for the 2018 municipal election is high.

The final total for advanced voting, which began on Oct. 11, is 3,952.

That beats out the past two municipal elections. In 2014 over 3,200 people voted in advanced, in 2010, that number was higher at around 3,800.

The field that voters have to choose from is also quite large, especially for Cornwall’s 10 council positions. There are 30 candidates running for Cornwall City Council.

For Mayor, there are four candidates in the running, incumbent Mayor Leslie O’Shaughnessy, Councillor Bernadette Clement, Councillor David Murphy and candidate Nicole Spahich.

Polls opened on voting day, today, Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m.
