CORNWALL, Ontario – Parts of the Cornwall bike path will need significant repairs according to a study done by the City of Cornwall administration.

Specifically, the study found that parts of the retaining walls along Montreal Rd. that support that section of the bike path have severely eroded.

According to an in-house assessment, the cost to repair these retaining walls could be as much as $1 million.

“The in-house estimate is based on the cost of similar types of walls like the one outside the Cornwall Community Hospital (CCH),” said Jamie Fawthrop, Division Manager for the Parks & Recreation Department.

When this issue will be addressed has yet to be determined. According to Fawthrop the department is still in the early stages of organizing its budget submission for 2019. However, even if Council does not approve $1 million for the full repairs, some steps will have to be taken.

“Without council approval, we would need to take intermediate measures,” Fawthrop said.

The section of retaining wall under the bike bath extends for about 1 km from in front of Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge heading east to Boundary Rd.
