UPDATE: Body found in river was of an elderly female

CORNWALL, Ontario – On the night of April 25 at around 10:45 p.m. the Cornwall Community Police Service (CCPS) released a public notice that they had found a body in the St. Lawrence River.

“On April 25th, 2018 the Cornwall Community Police Service were contacted to investigate a death in which a body was found in the St. Lawrence River,” the CCPS statement read. “CCPS attended the scene and commenced an investigation. At this time the investigation is still ongoing and foul play is not suspected.”

CCPS has not confirmed to Seaway News that they had been asked by the OPP to assist them in searching for an elderly female whose well-being they were concerned about.

Ultimately, a member of the CCPS did discover the elderly woman’s body in the St. Lawrence River near the Seaway International Bridge.

“Out of respect for the family, we will not be releasing the woman’s identity,” said Stephanie McRae, CCPS Communications Coordinator.

The case has been turned over to the coroner’s office.
