CORNWALL, Ontario – The Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest grass-roots fundraiser supporting the Special Olympics.

For 31 years, the Cornwall Community Police Service (CCPS) have done their part to support the cause, and this year was no different. On Wednesday, May 16, 2018, the CCPS helped escort a parade of supporters as they carried a Special Olympics torch through Cornwall in support of the Special Olympics.

Along the way, walkers were encouraged to collect money in cans from local passersby and businesses.

The run started at the CCPS East End Station on Montreal Rd., then traveled down to CCVS via Sydney St. before ending at Baxtrom’s Your Independent Grocer.

Walking with the police this year were students from CCVS, St. Lawrence Secondary School and Beyond 21, who have been a part of the Torch Run for the past three years.

Last year, the Torch Run raised $1.5 million across Ontario for Canadian Special Olympic athletes.
