LONG SAULT, Ontario – A Pop-up Market/Artisans in the Park drew a large crowd at The Lost Villages Museum on Saturday, July 7.

The pop-up started at 10 a.m. and finished at 4 p.m. Over 55 vendors showcased their products — from jewellery, to paintings to wood centerpieces. Face painting was provided, and a barbeque was present with food and refreshments. A portion of the proceeds earned will go to The Lost Villages Historical Society.

“This is year three for a pop-up market,” said Debbie Burns, the event organizer, who is a part of W3G & Co. “I’ve driven by this place for years, and I’ve always loved the Lost Villages. It was one of those things that I thought I would love to host an event here.”

“It’s important to remember the challenges that people like my parents and grandparents faced when the Seaway went through,” said David Hill, a volunteer with the Lost Villages Historical Society. Hill’s grandfather’s barber shop is one of the sites at the Lost Villages Museum.

According to Gloria Waldroff, treasurer of The Lost Villages Historical Society, past markets didn’t have as many vendors showcasing their work.

“This opportunity came up and I’m really pleased with the number of cars here today,” said Waldroff.

Waldroff said that the society is working on incorporating debit and credit payment, as well as online payment to make donations possible.

“It costs a lot to keep the historical sites in good condition,” said Waldroff. “We are trying to expand our merchandise in the store to expand more sales.”

Ghost Hunting and Bus Tours are popular attractions for the society through the summer months. To find out more information about the events offered, visit lostvillages.ca/events/

“Not a lot of people know that they’re here, or know what it is (the museum),” said Burns.
