CORNWALL, Ontario – The first ever Ride for Hospice that was hosted by Seaway Valley Riders attracted 86 motorcyclists and several passengers on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Riders enjoyed over 75 kms of travel and warm weather while making stops in Alexandria and at St-Albert Cheese.

“We have 31 members in our club, and it’s only been a couple of years that we came together as a club…We decided to do something. With the numbers we have, we could do something good,” said Mike Dagenais, a member of the Seaway Valley Riders.

Dagenais expects to raise over $8,000 and anticipates funds to continue trickling in over the next few weeks. He said that funds will be allocated by Hospice where they are needed.

“Hospice touches virtually every human being (in Cornwall),” said Kat Alderson, a member of the Seaway Valley Riders. “Because it’s not a government funded organization, it’s run mostly with volunteers. They need this money to continue to offer one of the best things for end of life that they can. They allow partners and families to spend time with their loved ones and not have to look after them.”

“We’ve been overwhelmed with the response we have been getting from the biking community, friends, restaurants, sponsors — they gave us so much of everything so we can make the most money at the end of the day,” said Dagenais.

Kim Hurtubise, the owner of St. Lawrence Blvd Pub, was happy and excited to host the riders before and after their ride.
