CORNWALL, Ontario – The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada is closing 24 locations across the country, and one of those offices is in Cornwall.

“Over the years, as time changed and technology changed, we have had fewer and fewer people actually visiting our offices,” said Erin Killoran, Heart and Stroke Regional Director. “So our need for that space isn’t what it used to be, very similar to shopping online or doing banking online.”

Killoran said that there are several home-based employees across the country and province, and that model of service is working well. She believes that donors and supporters won’t experience much of a change.

Lynn Kenney, local Area Manager, will be working from her home instead of at an office, and will be out in the community where it is convenient for supporters.

“We will still be present in the community, just without a physical location,” said Killoran.

According to Killoran, offices don’t provide any patient services, but instead provide health information by mail or reference to the foundation’s website.

“Our offices were and are primarily offices where we execute our fundraising programs,” said Killoran.

Killoran believes that this is a positive, cost-saving strategy for the foundation.

“There will be significant cost savings from not having physical locations. It’s just going to allow us to have more funds available for the research that we fund, and advocacy and education that we do,” said Killoran.
