CORNWALL, Ontario – Pink and blue icing was exploding onto Smile Cookies during the speed decorating competition on Monday, Sept. 17.

To kick off Tim Horton’s annual Smile Cookie campaign, 34 participants from throughout the community faced off to show their support and spread awareness by decorating six Smile Cookies as fast as they could.

This year, every dollar raised from the purchase of a Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie will go towards Rachel’s Kids.

“It went amazing, it was a lot of fun,” said Dr. Rachel Navaneelan, in regards to the competition. “Everyone was very competitive, so it just added to the fun.”

Chantal Leger, owner of The Loft Salon, was this year’s fastest decorator. Leger owes her success to when she worked as a decorator at Dairy Queen when she was a teenager.

Rachel’s Kids has granted wishes to local children affected by illness through the Small Moments of Joy program, which was launched in 2014. The organization has incorporated a pool and a gaming system into children’s’ lives, sent families to Disney World and Lego Land, and has hosted princess themed parties.

This year’s fundraising goal is to surpass $40,000, which is approximately what was raised last year.

“It just goes to show Cornwall’s true spirit,” said Kim Lauzon, Executive Director of Rachel’s Kids, who was happy with the event turnout.

To participate in the cause and support Rachel’s Kids, ask for a $1 Smile Cookie at any Tim Horton’s franchise in Cornwall.
