CORNWALL, Ontario – Smile Cookies purchased from local Tim Horton’s between Sept. 17 and 23 will raise funds for Rachel’s Kids for the third year in a row.

Rachel’s Kids has given back to local children battling life threatening or chronic illnesses, through programs like Small Moments of Joy. The organization has sent families to Disney World and Lego Land, installed pools and jungle gyms, and gifted video gaming systems.

“We are so excited that we are the Smile Cookie recipient again this year,” said Kim Lauzon, Executive Director.

Each cookie will cost $1 and will be baked and decorated locally. On Monday, Sept. 17, Rachel’s Kids will hold a cookie decorating contest at the Cornwall Square to raise awareness about the campaign.

“Every penny that comes in goes back out to Rachel’s Kids,” explained Darryn McPhail, a local Tim Horton’s franchise owner. “Probably one of our most successful campaigns have been with Rachel’s Kids.”

Last year, approximately $40,000 was raised through the Smile Cookie campaign. Organizers are hoping to raise more than ever before as the campaign will be seeking a new charity to support next year.

“Maybe we will find other projects in the future outside of Smile Cookie that we can work with Rachel’s Kids,” said McPhail.

Rachel’s Kids has granted wishes to local children affected by illness through Small Moments of Joy, which was launched in 2014. On Sept. 1, a Beauty and the Beast tea party was held for a community member. She had the opportunity to celebrate with her close princess friends and enjoy a horse drawn carriage.
