CORNWALL, Ontario – Jeffrey Burles, 34, of Cornwall was arrested on Oct. 14, 2018 on the strength of a warrant. He was also charged with theft under $5,000 x 2 and breach of probation x 2 for failing to keep the peace.
It is alleged on Oct. 2, 2018 the man failed to attend court for a theft charge and a warrant was issued for his arrest. It is further alleged on Sept. 6, 2018, the man attended a Second Street East business and removed merchandise, making no attempt to pay for the items as he left the store. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On Oct. 14, 2018, the man was located by police. He was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant, charged accordingly, and released to appear in court on Nov. 15, 2018. It is further alleged that later on Oct. 14, 2018, after being released from police custody, the man attended a Brookdale Avenue business and removed merchandise, making no attempt to pay for the items as he left the store. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During the investigation the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.
