SOUTH STORMONT, Ontario – On March 7, 2019, at approximately 8:42 a.m., Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to a report of a traffic complaint on Hwy 401 in South Stormont Township.
Investigation indicated that the driver had made threats against a business in Ontario. SD&G OPP officers located the vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed (171km/hr in a posted 100km/hr zone). SD&G OPP officers intercepted the vehicle and arrested the male driver as he was in breach of previous release conditions. The male was in possession of a pellet handgun, bear spray, cannabis and a machete.
Benoit Therrien, 29, of Saint-Valentin, QC was located, arrested and charged with;
– Unauthorized possession of a weapon
– Fail to comply with conditions of a recognizance (three counts)
– Uttering threats (two counts)
– Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
– Possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling (Cannabis Act)
– Stunt Driving (Highway Traffic Act)
– Drive a motor vehicle – no licence (HTA)
– Litter highway (HTA)
– Drive vehicle – cannabis readily available (CA)
– Possession of over 30grams dried cannabis in a public place (CA)
He was held in custody (bail) and is scheduled to a court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall March 8, 2019.
