CORNWALL, Ontario – A man waltzed into the east-end Cornwall police station and promptly threatened the lives of a pair of officers earlier this month.

Police said the man, brandishing a knife, entered the station on Montreal Road April 15 brandishing a knife and threatened to kill the officers.

If that wasn’t enough he left the station and informed the officers he was on his way to kill a 47-year-old woman known to him.

Police followed the man who refused to put the knife down at which point the Tazer was deployed to gain control of the man. Following an investigation the man was arrested and charged accordingly on April 24 and remained in custody for a bail hearing.

Police did not indicate why it took so long to charge the man.

Matthew Sawyer, 28 of Cornwall was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of weapons dangerous, three counts of threats to life and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace.
