‘Megabus’ driver charged in summertime accident

CORNWALL, Ontario – A terrible accident involving a tour bus and a tractor-trailer near Lancaster this summer has resulted in police charges.

OPP have arrested Gary Graham, 64, of Lombardy, Ont. the operator of the tour bus and charged him with careless driving.

On June 23 a so-called “Megabus” collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer, resulting in serious injuries to some of the passengers on board the tour vehicle.

The Township of South Glengarry issued a State of Emergency when the Megabus and a tractor trailer collided. South Glengarry Fire Services, OPP and EMS were at the scene of the accident.

The Megabus, travelling to Kingston and Toronto from Montreal, was carrying 45 passengers at the time of the accident. Of those passengers, 19 were transported to Glengarry Memorial Hospital, six were transported to Cornwall Community Hospital and one was transported by air ambulance to Ottawa. All passengers have been accounted for and there were no fatalities.

The remaining 18 non-injured passengers were transported to South Glengarry’s Emergency Shelter at the Char-Lan Recreation Centre in Williamstown, where staff members from the Red Cross and Social Services were on hand to register and care for passengers.
